Police officers made an old man very happy when they arranged for him to walk along the beach in Conwy on his birthday.

Arthur Hughes has walked the same route daily with his dog Cassie for the past five years, but when the lockdown was implemented five weeks ago everything changed.

In a bid to make her father’s 78th birthday a little special Michelle Stockham contacted the West Conwy policing team and asked if they could arrange for the barrier on the beach car park to be lifted for a short time.

She said: “Dad is not in the best of health and hasn’t been his usual cheery self since not being able to get out, so when the officers arranged to meet us at the car park it made his day very special.

“He had a lovely time. He just sat on the bench in his favourite place overlooking Deganwy with Cassie and reflected on things. He absolutely loved it and I can’t thank the officers enough for their kindness.

“They have gone above and beyond to make one man and his dog very happy. What they have done means so much.”

A member fo the Conwy team said: “It was a lovely request and we loved the opportunity to help the family make Arthur’s day special.”
