Bangor man jailed for over four years for subjecting shop worker to ‘terrifying’ knife ordeal
A man from Bangor has been jailed for four-and-a-half-years after subjecting a shop worker to a “terrifying” knife ordeal.
Darren Wyn Griffiths, 30, of Edmund Street, yesterday pleaded guilty to robbery after the incident last month.
On the 19th April, Griffiths entered Stop and Shop on the city’s High Street, with a scarf covering his face and brandishing a large kitchen knife.
He demanded money from the shop assistant before fleeing the location with alcohol.
Detective Inspector Andy Gibson said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the shop assistant. The assailant had entered the premises several hours earlier and stolen cans of lager, he would have been aware the staff member was on her own in the shop.
“On the second occasion he threatened the staff member with a large kitchen knife demanding money.
“Following extensive enquiries and trawling significant amounts of CCTV – we were able to identify and arrest the suspect at his home address.
“We continue to strive to make North Wales one of the safest places to live and despite the challenges involved with the current pandemic, we are fully focused and will relentlessly pursue those who commit such violent crimes, and threaten to disrupt the local community.”
