Holyhead sites set for demolition
The demolition of a former library and two primary schools will be debated by council planners in the new year.
A total of £491,330 has been made available by the Welsh Government towards demolishing Holyhead’s former library and Ysgol y Parc primary school, in the hopes they will be more attractive for future development.
But on January 8, Anglesey Council’s planning committee will be asked to approve bids submitted by the authority itself to not only demolish both facilities but also Ysgol y Parchedig Thomas Ellis.
Holyhead’s former library currently lies empty following the opening of the newly revamped Market Hall earlier this year.
Ysgol y Parc, meanwhile, was shut along with Ysgol Llaingoch and Ysgol y Parch Thomas Ellis in 2017 to make way for the new Ysgol Cybi “super school.”
Demolishing all the sites, say the council, would increase their capital value and more attractive for future development.
The report, recently presented to the council Executive, says: “This land would then be available to be redeveloped either utilising remaining EU funds or sold to the private sector, generating capital receipts for the county council as well as wider job opportunities and growth.”
A decision is expected when the authority’s planning committee meets in Llangefni on Wednesday, January 8.
